Together for
better governance

The Uniterra program approaches governance from a perspective of strengthening civil society, both in terms of players working together and of the establishment of political dialogue. Uniterra’s governance sector is a strategic component of the 2009-2014 program and focuses on three areas of involvement, namely local development, the social economy and fair trade, as well as women’s rights.
The main aspects of these issues are reflected in various ways. We include here a shortage of abilities and political tools for engaging in dialogue with governments, limited access to basic water and sanitation services, a lack of political influence, weak business and administrative skills (communication, marketing, entrepreneurship, etc.) and a scarcity of women’s participation and inclusion in decision-making.
Uniterra is working with partners to spur the necessary changes. The aim is to help them develop the tools and abilities needed for them to support their cause and their ideas in relation to outside organizations. Uniterra helps guide them in better governance.
